Australian Resources

Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented: The premier body for giftedness in Australia. Website provides information, resources, and more around giftedness. You can also become a member through state-specific portals to access exclusive resources. Those in Queensland and the Northern Territory can join directly through the AAEGT website.

Australian Gifted Support Centre Services: Offers useful resources, information, and articles.

GERRIC – University of New South Wales: A comprehensive resource featuring resources, research, and more, as well as short courses and workshops in areas of gifted education.

Books

101 Success Secrets for Gifted Kids (Christine Fonseca): A book written for gifted children that can give teachers an insight to the thought processes of gifted students and ways of offering effective teaching.

Counseling the Gifted and Talented (Linda Kreger Silverman and Leland Baska): While primarily aimed at mental health professionals, this book is also a valuable resource for educators. It offers an insight into the mentality, struggles, and complexities of giftedness while providing recommendations on areas such as coping skills, perfectionism, social skills, leadership, and more.

Developing the Gifted and Talented Young Learner (Margaret Sutherland): Targeted at teachers of young gifted students (early years and primary) with information and recommendations.

Gifted Education, Creativity and Leadership Development (Dorothy Sisk): A compilation of academic articles surrounding giftedness education, its importance, and emerging teaching methods. The book is open access, and an online version can be read by clicking the book title.

Gifted Lives – What Happens When Gifted Children Grow Up (John Freeman): A fascinating look at 20 gifted children in adulthood and their stories of development that turned them into the unique adults they became. No stories are the same.

Serving Gifted Students in Rural Settings (Tamra Stambaugh and Susannah Wood): A book on the unique difficulties of teaching gifted students in rural settings and ways of overcoming these problems.

Understanding Gifted Students – Accepting the Exceptional (Joanna Simpson and Megan Glover Adams): Explores the unique social and emotional struggles of gifted students and their causes with recommendations on how to support these gifted students.
